MFT Sketch Challenge 407

So, I finally got around to doing a card challenge.  It's taken me six months, so it doesn't bode well for me being a prolific blogger, does it?!

I have joined the MFT sketch challenge, and this is the sketch we have to work with.

I use stars quite a lot.  They are great for teenage boy cards, and I make quite a few of those, with our extended families made up mostly of males!  I make my mum's cards too, and of her eleven grandchildren, only two are girls.  So I get lots of practice at masculine cards.  It was easy when they were younger, but as they get into their teens they don't seem to appreciate cutesy images so much, and there are only so many images with digital 'toys' out there.

Having said that, my first card for this challenge was a more feminine effort.  I decided to make a one layer card.

I used MFT's Plentiful Petals to make the star, then masked off the strip across the bottom and brushed on some Distress Shaded Lilac.  I then stamped the birthday sentiment, which is a Papertrey stamp.  This was the point where I realised my star wasn't completely 'square' on the page, and the bottom right point is higher than the left.

I then tried a similar idea with MFT's More Monsters stamp set.

I was a lazy girl, and used die cuts to mask the monsters; maybe it would have looked better if I had actually cut the masks out.  Maybe I will try that some time.

As my daughter was passing she looked at my efforts.  "That's cool," she said, as she looked at the floral card.  So that's the one I entered into the challenge.  As I write this I still have to work out how to do that, but I'm sure I will get it.

Thank you for stopping by!
Karen
